He has taught the Quran in many places during his stay in Yemen and the United States. He serves as the Resident Imam at Al-Maqasid. Ustadh Omar Popal was born and raised in northern Virginia. In a commitment to lifelong learning, he has continued his studies sitting at the feet of various scholars, most recently spending time in Istanbul for intensive studies.

Ustadh Omar has taught Arabic and Islamic studies at several mosques and institutes in northern Virginia. In , he founded Tanwir Institute, with the mission of serving the educational and spiritual needs of the large Muslim population in the DC metropolitan area. He teaches Arabic and Islamic studies at Al-Maqasid. Shortly after converting, he was afforded an opportunity to go abroad and learn about the principles of inviting others to Allah Da'wa , traveling to the blessed lands of Mecca and Medina, as well as Bangladesh and India.

Upon returning to the United States, Ustadh Yusuf was accepted by Darul Uloom New York, where he continued studying the sacred sciences for four more years.

He then traveled to the blessed city of Tarim, Yemen, spending three especially formative years at the acclaimed school Dar al-Mustafa established by renowned scholar Habib Umar Bin Hafiz. During this time, he completed the memorization of the Quran, the Forty Hadith of Imam Nawawi, while also studying several manuals of Fiqh, as well as numerous books of the Islamic spiritual tradition.

In , Ustadh Yahya traveled to Mauritania to pursue a full-time course of study, where he learned from some of Mauritania's greatest scholars, including the distinguished, Murabit al-Hajj. In , Ustadh Yahya moved to Tarim, Yemen to continue his studies at the prestigious learning institute, Dar al-Mustafa. He studied various sciences including Tafsir, Hadith, theology, jurisprudence, legal theory, the Prophetic biography, and Arabic poetry.

In the latter part of , Ustadh Yahya returned to the U. He subsequently returned overseas to further his studies while he also participated in religious programs worldwide, lecturing, teaching, and translating. He travels regularly teaching, lecturing, and conducting weekend seminars with institutes such as the Deen Intensive Foundation.
