Which is better exeter or bristol

It largley green welly dog walking. A little bit of interesting walking and mtbing on the isle of perbecks but it a very small area and quite time consuming to get to.

End of road type of place but without the advantages of being end of the road. Bristol seems nice, still expensive but more gogin on and better connected to rest of country that Exeter or Bournemouth. Stuff very local is more important than really amazing a little journey away.

Bristol seems to have stuff closeish but still a bit of a way. Seems like it can be an arse to get around. I work in programming but Engineering related rather than business applications. Currently doing control systems. Thinking of going contracting though so likely to have to work away anyway.

Partner is a teacher, enjoys challenging schools. Devonian living in exile in Somerset. Both have expensive property. Ime, Exeter has nothing like the buzz of Bristol, but it still manages to have the small town vibe.

Job prospects in and around Bristol are likely to be better overall, because of generally better connections. Bristol is also WAY more cosmopolitan. Either Exeter or Bristol, and the surrounding countryside, is better than where you are! Either will be nice. Bristol is great, though property prices are getting silly dependent on your view of silly prices. I think what worries me about Bristol is that I left London a few years ago because of cost and space and sick of spending aa long time traveling out of London to go for a walk or a ride meaning a short walk took all afternoon.

Bristol is nothing like London. Exeter will give you much better options to get out to the countryside in record time though. I saw one yesterday!!!! I know I will not get everything, life is a compromise after all. I like going on holiday up north but family is all down south which is important to me. Bristol is a congested city with a horrible centre, and a couple of token bits of woodland full of mud and bike thieves.

Maybe there are loads of events and happenings. Cost of Living in Wells. Cost of Living in Trowbridge. Cost of Living in Weston-super-Mare. Cost of Living in Tetbury.

Cost of Living in Newport. Cost of Living in Gloucester. Cost of Living in Swindon. Cost of Living in Yeovil. Cost of Living in Cheltenham. Cost of Living in Torquay. Cost of Living in Taunton. Cost of Living in Bridport. Cost of Living in Plymouth. Lands End is approx a 2. Unless you need to stay in those places, i would stay in Cornwall somewhere to cut down your daily travel.

Thank you for just a prompt response. My reason for considering Bristol was to take the drive along country roads to visit towns on the coast of Bristol Channel and the Celtic Sea on the way to my ultimate destination in Cadgwick for the evening. By arrivng by train in Exeter , I would not have time to see the northern part of Southwest England. I would drive to Cadgwick the same evening and have a few hours to see towns on the Southern part.

It is really hard to plan a trip with limited knowledge of an area. Your help is deeply appreciated. Both Bristol and Exeter are nice cities with lovely surrounding countryside, although if it is the latter you are after, Exeter is better coast and inland, Dartmoor, Devon. And dare I say it: are you sure you really want to go to Land's End?

Cadgewick is a village on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall so fairly close to Lands End. If you are set on going there and hiring a car from Exeter or Bristol , I would pick Exeter as Bristol to The Lizard is a long drive which would be even longer if you used country roads rather than the M5 motorway. Also, the country areas of Devon and Cornwall are slightly more picturesque than those around Bristol, so if you only have a day to make this journey I suggest that you start from Exeter.

Exeter is feasible if you want to drive to Cornwall for a day and back again but be aware that the small roads in Devon and Cornwall are nothing like the roads you're used to driving on in the USA! I agree with faceman01, Exeter would be a better base for venturing in to Cornwall than Bristol , although both cities have many plus points.

Dartmoor is amazing and from Exeter you can see places like Widdecombe-in-the-Moor, Lydford Gorge and the tors. The city itself is very charming in fact I am just getting in to my car for a day visit!

Several people have said to me that Land's End is a bit like a theme park, so I have never been, but the Cornish countryside is wonderful and the village of Zennor near Land's End is lovely. I really do appreciate all of the wonderful comments from the dedicated contributors.

Based upon these comments, I have decided on Exeter as our destination terminal to begin our short visit to the area.
