Educational and Psychological Measurement, 7 , — There are a number of ways to establish construct validity. A test has convergent validity if it has a high correlation with another test that measures the same construct. We will not get into this right now.
Factor analysis is a complex statistical procedure which is conducted for a variety of purposes, one of which is to assess the construct validity of a test or a number of tests. We will get there. That is, if a test has construct validity, scores on the individual test items should correlate highly with the total test score.
This is evidence that the test is measuring a single construct. There are a variety of techniques for performing an item analysis, which is often used, for example, to determine which items will be kept for the final version of a test.
Item analysis is used to help "build" reliability and validity are "into" the test from the start. Item analysis can be both qualitative and quantitative.
The former focuses on issues related to the content of the test, eg. Aging 25, — Baltes, P. Wisdom: a metaheuristic pragmatic to orchestrate mind and virtue toward excellence. Beaumont, S. Methods to Evaluate Content Validity Several approaches to evaluate content validity have been described in the literature. Theory-Based Item Analysis Scale items are often developed on the basis of theoretical definitions of the construct, and sometimes they are even analyzed for content validity in similar ways as described above, but after this step, item selection is usually purely empirical.
Goals of the Study The main aim of this paper is to introduce the Content-Scaling-Structure CSS procedure, a mixed-methods approach for analyzing and optimizing the content validity of a questionnaire or scale.
